Counter tops

September 13, 2011 - Tuesday

Counter top install. They set all the counter tops and undermount sinks. At over 700lbs, it took 8 guys to move in the kitchen island counter top.

One thing we knew when we decided to build a house, is that we didn't want to do the same things everyone else was doing. One of the things we knew we didn't want was shiny smooth granite counter tops. They look great, but everyone is doing it.

At first we wanted concrete counter tops with a black tint and a chiseled edge. Unfortunately, in Roseburg there aren't a lot of guys that have this skill, plus it would end up costing as much, if not more, than granite.

What we ended up doing is...going up to The Marble Center in Salem and looked at what they had to offer. We found an antiqued granite (black pearl) that had the exact look we wanted. When they "antique" the granite it takes off the smooth surface and leaves a dull textured surface. We also had them chisel the edges.

I must say, IT LOOKS AWESOME!!! It's a great compliment to the cabinets, plumbing/electrical fixutres, paint, and stainless steel appliances. So far, everyone that has seen them has commented on them.
